Repetition for the Eyes

Patterns in nature make up very interesting exercises for the eyes. The gradation in colour here emulates a sunset, changing from yellow at the centre apex to red towards the bottom. Discover other cool photos along the same lines of patterns in flora at National Geographic.

From the Bottom Up

Sometimes things look surprisingly nice from angles that you'd least expect. I think these yellow coneflowers are just as beautiful from beneath as from above.

Past Due Date

Even when past prime, things can still have beauty all in their own. This was taken in natural light against some whiteboard. The original was a blue vase and orangey-red flower. I referred to a colour wheel and switched it up a bit to the complimentary colours of yellow and purple.

Grandi-rose

A sample of some of the most beautiful roses in a natural setting that you'll ever see. Courtesy of the Stanley Park Rose Garden and a summer day. These are a Grandiflora variety of rose - tall growing and sturdy. Grand indeed!

Lemony Singles

It's always a challenge to keep fresh roses for an extended period. I've heard of adding a penny to the vase water, or mixing in a crushed Tylenol tablet in order to help preserve flowers. Land of the Rising Sun

The Living Fireplace is essentially eternal though if you loop the video. This scene is much more ephemeral than that.

Springboard

The curve to these daisy petals remind me of springboards, making it appear as though you could jump off these ends into a sea of blue.

Mum’s the Word

It was back into the macro studio with some fresh cut flower stems. A spider mum this time, also known as a football mum. There's a fly in the apartment, and these flowers are known for their ability to produce a natural insecticide, so we'll see just how long this fly ends up flying around in here.

After the Rain

Well, ok, this photo of a wet coneflower was taken in the southern Okanagan where rain can be a rare commodity. So instead of "After the Rain" it's more like "After the Garden Irrigation System".

Everything’s Coming Up Daisies

... or at least I think this is a daisy. There were so many flowers to choose from at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens. Most of them labeled, but I couldn't keep them all straight.
