The Land That Ugly Forgot The Bewildering, Beautiful and Blithe Happenings Around Vancouver, BC

Annis Road

I've driven by this sign hundreds of times, and it still makes me laugh as much as it did the first time I ever saw it. Either I am entertained with childish jokes really easily, or the City of Chilliwack really did pick a ridiculous name for this road.

Happy Scissors

There's a few things to make fun of on this sign for a local strip mall, but it's the silly establishment name of "Happy Scissors" that caught my attention. I guess it's better than calling the shop "Disgruntled Scissors". That would just scare people away.

I Thought the Names for Roads Were Endless…

... butt obviously I must be wrong since some municipalities have to resort to naming roads like the below. I wonder if it's a dead end street? Or maybe a one way street? One thing about this road name is endless - the jokes and puns.

Beware of Dog… and Take Your Shoes Off

The "Beware of Dog" warning on the driver's side of this semi truck I can understand if the driver takes his dog with him on the road for companionship and security. The addition of "No Shoes" though is starting to make this truck cab look more like a residence.

Assinis

Using a surname to name the family restaurant is common practice, but there's probably some surnames that shouldn't be used for places of eating like in the above example. Then again, "Hooters" doesn't sound all that gastronomically appetizing either... but that restaurant chain is satisfying a whole other appetite all together.

Granny Smith

I was expecting to see a park filled with apple trees given this park sign (i.e. the granny smith apple variety). Then I read that the commemoration of this park in Port Coquitlam was to an actual Granny Dorothy Smith. Good thing the A&W Restaurant sign in the background wasn't advertising the Granny burger instead of the Papa burger. That just wouldn't have been appropriate.

Donald Wilson

I'd want to live at this intersection in Port Coquitlam if my name was Donald Wilson. It'd be so easy to remember where home is.

Because Everyday Is Some Kind of National Holiday

It's National Corn Dog Day! Make sure you celebrate accordingly. For those of you unfamiliar with what a corn dog is, it's a hot dog encased in a cornmeal batter and deep fried. A match made in heaven:

Learn Dog Speak

Usually when a governing body goes to the trouble to print signs to inform the public, the signs have some sense of formality. Given this sign is to advise dogs and their guardians where they're allowed to walk, it only makes sense to post the sign in both human and dog language so both understand. The West Coast of BC is very dog-friendly.

Chantelle Doesn’t Want Fries With That

I guess they didn't have room on the sign to say "Congrats Chantelle on Working at the Olympics and Not Having to Work Here Anymore ".
