Horseshoe Bay Way

For those of you unfamiliar with the area, this vista across Horseshoe Bay is the visual epitome of coastal British Columbia. The only thing missing is a ferry boat.
Look Up
The majestic trees at Lynn Canyon in North Vancouver are even more impressive when you look up and consider how small you are... and young. These trees have seen at least the past one hundred years, being second-growth forests planted at the turn of the last century.
The Mighty Cedar
I expected to see a family of Smurfs living in this tree trunk because it was perfect, like a work of art. It is a remnant from one of the many giant cedars that grow on the West Coast. This was close to Twin Falls in Lynn Canyon, which has a giant-redwood-forest feel to it. One could easily mistake many parts of BC for California.
British Columbia Parks & Recreation
Forget going to the gym to use the Stairmaster for working those glutes. In BC you can go to Lynn Valley and do that type of exercise outside using pathways made of roots of the rainforest.
Lions Gate Bridge Human Experiment
This is the Lions Gate Bridge, connecting Vancouver City to the North Shore. It was early one damp Sunday morning, but the rain didn't keep the police away. Notice the patrol cars positioned on either side of the bridge entrance. Then notice how drivers apply their brake lights the moment they realize there's cops parked there. I think it's a natural human reaction to step on the brake when you see a police car, just like having to close your eyes when you sneeze, or getting frustrated by not being able to lick the tip of your own elbow. Some things just aren't humanly possible.
The Path to Somewhere
Vancouver is beautiful, but your bank account usually sustains some damage if you want to go somewhere and do something. You have to pay for parking everywhere, even seemingly in the middle of nowhere up in the mountains so long as it's deemed a tourist attraction of some sort. Lynn Canyon in North Vancouver is a gem of a location. There's a suspension bridge, waterfalls, a lake, tons of trails, well-marked paths and even a cafeteria. And it's all free! No ridiculous parking charges. No entrance fees to cross the bridge. This location definitely gets two green and financially-conscious thumbs up.
What Hibernation?
Why sleep off a mild winter in the rainforest of the Pacific Northwest? While foraging for a snack, this squirrel was more than willing to pose for posterity.
