The Land That Ugly Forgot The Bewildering, Beautiful and Blithe Happenings Around Vancouver, BC

28Jun/107

And the Silly Awards of the BC Highland Games Go To…

This guy in the green kilt who showed his friends something obviously hilarious. At least his green kilt wasn't lifted when he got that reaction from his pals:

This most mis-matched couple dancing a Scottish reel. It was a crowd-participation moment so you can easily identify here who's teaching who. I stick my tongue out too when I'm concentrating:

These two guys for doing a facepalm in a kilt:

This child for becoming so upset from reading the festival programme. I had the same internal reaction upon realizing no food booths were peddling the haggis I'd long awaited for:

This guy for being unable to restrain himself from paying homage to World Cup 2010:

To #2 in line here for illustrating how hard it must be to blow into a set of bagpipes. Or for having a look of the worst case of indigestion ever. Maybe it's a good thing there wasn't any haggis around afterall:

  1. Those are the greatest photos! I’ve just got to get to Scotland so I can try on a kilt, too!
My secretary would ask, “So, what are they wearing under their kilts?”

  2. Terrific captures…I love all the smiling faces. And, the kilt-clad gentleman chasing the soccer ball with dress shoes is a hoot. I’m torn as to my favorite. Looks like a great time.

  3. Yikes. I thought that playing the pipes would be like playing the trombone. Gotta keep those chops tight to prevent yourself from looking like your face is going to explode!

  4. I didn’t venture to find out how authentic the kilt-wearing was… it was quite warm that day so there’s a good chance a few were wearing it in the old school manner. Thank goodness it wasn’t windy that day! haha

  5. It reminded me of the Monty Python skit where all the philosophers are standing around the soccer field theorizing then kicking the ball around periodically! haha It’s so funny to see an everyday activity be done by somebody not wearing everyday or the associated dress. Even seeing guys in kilts sitting around talking on a cellphone was amusing…. to me anyhow ;)

  6. You never saw me play the trombone, did you? I never looked like that. With trumpet though, maybe! My chops couldn’t cut it for playing trumpet. You’d think with all my laughing and giggling my yapper would be up to snuf. haha

  7. #2 is Gordon Conn! And he happens to play in one of the best bands in the world! I wear boxers or mini shorts under my kilt so I can just take it off when it’s too hot ;) You can try on a kilt at one of a number of kilt-hires in Vancouver…Tartantown in Coquitlam and House of Fraser in Gastown, to name a few.
