Annis Road
I've driven by this sign hundreds of times, and it still makes me laugh as much as it did the first time I ever saw it. Either I am entertained with childish jokes really easily, or the City of Chilliwack really did pick a ridiculous name for this road.

you seem to enjoy funny named roads. Annis, Butt….is it the posterior theme?

They also have roads named Luckakuk and Lickman. Something is in the water out there.

True! And I think of Pearl Jam each time I pass the Vedder Road signpost. Calgary has one of my faves though… Shaganappi Trail.

If you knew of the history of the Annis family this road was named for….well, we Annis are used to the anal jokes, but please remember…its is not pronounced ANUS…it is Ann-es. Simple rule of English that when a double consonant is followed by a vowel…never mind…..swoosh

I imagine that indeed, the proper pronunciation is definitely not the more rude one. Of course the silly side of me initially goes with the more crude option. At least you have a sense of humour with it (whether you naturally do, or had to develop one because of childish people like me…!).

Thanks Michael, a much teased name as I to grew up with it
But in the same breath I am proud to have carried the name for 26 year before I married. The funny thing is most people will always remember “THE ANNIS RD EXIT”

Ohh the childish people in society. I guess that is what makes our society so enjoyable. I am also a former Annis, who also grew up with the wonderful name calling. I find that is what makes you as a person grow stronger in personality. And for those of you who think it is pronounced “anus” grab out the good olde dictionary or thesaurus of yours, you know the big book of words in it, and read it carefully. I have yet to find “annis” written beside it
I am proud and always will be proud to of had the name Annis in my heritage, a well known family in the Chilliwack area. Oh, and by the way, in case you are still confused, it is pronounced Ann-is
